George passed Sunday after a fierce 2 1/2 year battle with Cancer.  He was an amazing man, and if you knew George you were a better person after spending time with him.

George was a success story and he left this world a better place because he was here.

George Richard Zolman NoticeGeorge Richard Zolman of Pasadena, MD passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 of cancer. He was born on January 23, 1951 and had just celebrated his 65th birthday. He spent the last days of his life surrounded by family and friends at his home on the Magothy River. He was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago and fought valiantly up until last week when he decided he wouldn’t win the fight and entered hospice care on Friday. George was born in Baltimore and lived in Dundalk where he graduated Dundalk High School in 1969. He started his career with McDonald’s at the age of 16. He wanted a motorcycle and his father told him that if he got a job he would buy the bike and he could pay him back. The next day George was hired as a crew person at the McDonald’s on Wise Avenue. He advanced in his career working up to store manager and then working for the corporation. He retired from McDonald’s Corporation as a Field Service Manager and along with his wife Nancy purchased his first McDonald’s on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie July 1, 1991. He went on to purchase 4 other McDonald’s restaurants in Glen Burnie and Essex, eventually selling the two in Essex and one in Glen Burnie. At the time of his death, he still owned the Ritchie Highway location and the one at Cromwell Field Shopping Center. George was very well respected with the McDonald’s family. He was a very smart man in the business community. He married his wife Nancy (Miller) in 1971 and would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in May. They had two sons, Keith and Josh. They moved to Pasadena in 1982 and were living there at the time of his death. They bought a house on the Magothy River in 2001 and he enjoyed doing what he loved best, hunting, fishing, crabbing and golf. He was a true outdoorsman. George was an avid deer hunter, a sport he started at the age of 16. He taught his sons and grandsons the sport of hunting and enjoyed many trips with his sons and friends hunting in Maryland and trips to Montana and Colorado. He enjoyed several trips in the past to Alaska for salmon fishing. He also enjoyed fishing and crabbing and spent every summer, all summer long crabbing on the Magothy. The last he crabbed was two days in the summer of 2015, as his illness prevented him from enjoying the many things he loved in life. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Keith (Stacy) and three grandchildren, Trevor, Karlee, and Connor Zolman. He leaves behind too many friends to count. He remained best friends from his high school days with Terry Dillion, Frank Balsamo, Pat Lynch and Darryl Wagner and also his golfing besties, Ray Bettwy and Glen Kikucci. He was predeceased by his son Josh, his parents Richard and Myrtle Zolman and sister Joyce Zolman, his mother-in-law Dolores Tranguccio and two sisters-in-law Patty Ellinger and Jean Moxley (Jonathan). Visitation is at Stallings Funeral Home on Mountain Rd. in Pasadena, Wednesday 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Baltimore Ronald McDonald House building fund.
