    Coastal Fisherman Report

    7:00 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that they are in the Poor Man’s Canyon again. They have 4 yellowfins in the box and have thrown back a few short ones. Water temperature is 72-degrees and seas are 3-4 feet.

    7:53 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that they are having a slow pick of yellowfins in 300 fathoms. Water temp is 74-degrees.

    9:21 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that they are just about done. There was a good yellowfin bite this morning with a few nice gaffers thrown in. Water temp was 74-degrees.

    FRIDAY, June 24, 2016

    Today is the first day of the 3-day MSSA Tuna-ment. Weigh-ins are at Atlantic Tackle from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

    7:43 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that the yellowfin tuna are really snapping in 100 fathoms in the Poor Man’s Canyon this morning. Mix of throwbacks and keepers in 70-degree water.

    9:57 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that it is a slow pick right now in the Poor Man’s Canyon. They have caught 10 yellowfins and released a white marlin. Most boats have plenty of tuna.

    11:11 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that his fish box is full and they are headed back to the dock. Sounds like it was a great day for everyone!

    2:10 PM – Charter boat, “Ivy Sea” went out to the African Queen and put 5 flounder and a sea bass in the box while fishing with 5-inch Gulp! Swimming Mullet. They they came in caught a flattie in the West Channel.

    Budd Heim caught a 25 1/2-inch, 6 lb. 3 oz. flounder on a bucktail tipped with a Gulp! Swimming Mullet in the bay behind Assateague near Marker #11.

    Charter boat, “That’s Right” returned from 100 fathoms in the Poor Man’s Canyon with 18 yellowfins and a white marlin release. All were caught on ballyhoo.

    6:02 PM – “Playin’ Catch” had 5 yellowfins and a mahi in 100 fathoms in the Poor Man’s Canyon.

    Charter boat, “Foolish Pleasures” returned with 18 yellowfin and a mahi from 100 fathoms just above the Poor Man’s Canyon. Everything on ballyhoo and spreader bars.

    Headboat, “Morning Star” had 3 bluefin tuna and 2 false albacore while trolling Zuker lures in 20 fathoms.

    Charter boat, “Marli” returned with 23 yellowfins in the box after fishing in 125 fathoms between the Poor Man’s and Baltimore Canyons.

    Charter boat, “White Lightning” had 8 yellowfins and a pair of mahi from 100-125 fathoms just north of the Poor Man’s Canyon.

    “C-Boys” had 9 yellowfins, 7 mahi and a white marlin release in 70-120 fathoms north of the Poor Man’s Canyon in 71-degree water.

    “Blood Money” had 10 yellowfins and a mahi from 150 fathoms in the Poor Man’s Canyon. Water temp was 72.5-degrees.

    Charter boat, “Spring Mix II” had 5 yellowfins and a white marlin release in 100 fathoms between the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyons.

    “Muff Diver” had 13 yellowfins, 2 mahi and a 107 lb. mako in 150 fathoms in the Poor Man’s.

    Charter boat, “Lucky Break” had 4 keeper flounder while fishing at the South Jetty with minnows. Largest flounder measured 23-inches and weighed 5 lbs.

    THURSDAY, June 23, 2016

    6:15 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that they are fishing in the Poor Man’s Canyon today. They found a floating log and hooked 5 gaffer mahi. They are now back to trolling.

    7:41 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported slow going in the Poor Man’s. No tuna bites yet. They are working a 2-degree temperature break (71-73)

    11:23 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that they are heading in after fishing in the Poor Man’s Canyon. They have 10 yellowfins and some gaffers in the box in addition to a white marlin release. Seas were snotty.

    2:23 PM – Storms ripped through the canyon between the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyon just as the yellowfin tuna were snapping. A couple of boats lost outriggers but several came home with nice catches.

    The charter boat, “That’s Right” was in 100 fathoms between the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyons and had 9 yellowfins and 5 mahi.

    “Bubblehead” took a group from Fishtails out to 140 fathoms between the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyons and returned with 5 yellowfins (up to 60 lbs.) and 6 mahi (up to 25 lbs.).

    2:55 PM – Charter boat, “Game Changer” just returned with 2 yellowfins and 15 mahi, up to 16 lbs.). Fish were caught on the troll in 140-160 fathoms between the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyons.

    4:14 PM – “Talkin’ Trash” fished in 140 fathoms between the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyons where they caught 9 mahi and 5 yellowfins.

    5:47 PM – The charter boat, “Restless Lady” fished in 140 fathoms between the Poor Man’s and Baltimore Canyons and ended up with 24 yellowfins and 4 mahi.

    Anglers on the “Marli” returned with 16 yellowfins, 2 mahi and 4 bigeye tuna, all from 150 fathoms between the Poor Man’s and Baltimore Canyons.

    WEDNESDAY, June 22, 2016

    The only boat that we heard that went fishing today was the charter boat, “Marli” who ended up with 6 yellowfins and 4 mahi after fishing in 500 fathoms in the Baltimore Canyon. Capt. Mark reported water temps at 71 degrees.

    ken German caught a pair of sheepshead on the south side of the Indian River Jetty while using sand fleas for bait. His largest weighed 7.7 lbs.

    TUESDAY, June 21, 2016

    The “Marli” returned with 13 yellowfin tuna and a gaffer dolphin after trolling in 100 fathoms in the Baltimore Canyon.

    Capt. Chris Mizurak on the headboat, “Angler” reported rough conditions but his anglers caught sea bass up to 3.5 lbs. on a natural reef.

    MONDAY, June 20, 2016

    It sounds like the yellowfin bite got good yesterday afternoon.

    Last night, “That’s Right” was between the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyon and had 5 yellowfins in the box after only 15 minutes of line in the water (8:36 PM)

    7:52 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” is fishing inshore of the Baltimore Canyon and reported that they had a fun night with plenty of sharks. They are fighting their 3rd bigeye tuna. Good action!

    8:07 AM – Capt. John Oughton on the charter boat, “That’s Right” reported that they just landed 3 out of 4 bigeye tuna and are heading home after fishing inshore of the Baltimore Canyon. Other boats are picking at yellowfins.

    11:30 AM – Anglers on the “Skattebol” returned late last night with 3 bigeye tuna onboard. The fish were caught in 200 fathoms on trolled ballyhoo. They left at noon on Sunday and returned at 10pm Sunday night. Fish weighed 127, 128 and 138 lbs.

    12:05 PM – After an overnight trip on the “That’s Right”, anglers returned this morning with 3 bigeyes (115, 130 and 220 lbs.) in addition to 6 yellowfins. The bigeyes were caught in 400 fathoms in the Baltimore Canyon where Capt. John found water temperatures around 73-degrees. Bigeyes were caught between 6:30 and 8:10 last night.
